The National Centre For Disease Control NCDC have confirmed a positive case of the novel Coronavirus in Port Harcourt.

The index case is a 19 year old female from Edo State, residing in Port Harcourt and had traveled to France, Italy and Greece before returning to Port Harcourt on 16 March 2020.

Samples for testing were collect from the patient when she became asymptomatic and sent to the Reference laboratory Irruan in Edo State. Where the results came back positive.

The Governor of Rivers state Barrister Nyesom Wike had said the government have commence tracing of all those she came in contact with since she arrived the state.

In an effect to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the Governor in a broadcast also directed all civil servants in Rivers State from grade level 1 - 10  to remain at home from Friday, 27 March 2020 until further notice.

The Governor also direct all market in the state to remain closed, all local Government chairmen are to head task force responsible for ensuring that all markets in their Local Government Area comply with the directive.
