With the privatization of PHCN, formally called NEPA. Payment of electricity bills have become easier. More and more people find it convenient to pay their electricity bills online without all the stress associated with the traditional payment method. Both Prepaid and Postpaid users can also pay their electricity bill online if they prefer.

I have listed two services that makes payment of electricity bills online as easy as breeze and I have also explained how to use them for electricity bill payment. It really doesn’t matter what state you reside in Nigeria or what electricity company you use, as both services works nation wide.




VTPass

Vtpass is a service that lets you pay your electricity bills online. They also offer other services like buying of airtime, internet bundle and payment of cable TV etc.

You can either use their website for payment or download the Vtpass mobile app on play store.

Requirements For Electric bill payment

To pay or top up your prepaid meter, you will need the following.

  • Your prepaid meter number
  • A debit card (MasterCard, Verve, Visa etc.)
  • An Internet connection.

How To Pay Your Electricity Bill With Vtpass

The following is a simply guide on how you can pay for your electricity bills using vtpass.

  • First, you want to visit the Vtpass website and sign up for an account
  • In the box that says “What do you want to pay” click on it and select “ Pay electricity bills”.
  • Now click on the drop down box and select either Port Harcourt Electricity (PHED), Kano Electricity (KEDCO), Jos Electricity (JED), Enugu Electricity (EEDC) or Ikeja Electricity. Depending on where you reside. and click on Go.
  • The next page will ask you for your meter type which is either prepaid or postpaid meter. You will then be required to enter your meter number, Phone number, Email Address and the Amount you want to pay.
  • Now click on continue. From here, all you have to do is enter your card details for payment depending on the payment method you choose.
  • Immediately after payment, you should receive a text message on your phone or an email confirming a successful transaction and the meter token will be sent to your email or phone number.

You can also use the VTpass android app for payment of electricity bills. The VTpass mobile app can be downloaded on google play store.


Jumia One

Jumia one is an app that is increasingly becoming popular. As you can already tell from its name. it is a mobile app that was developed by Jumia.

The Jumia one app can be used to pay for a lot of things online including payment of electricity bill.

It very easy to pay your electric bills through Jumia one irrespective of what state you reside in Nigeria.

Step To Pay Your Electricity bill online with Jumia One


  • First download the Jumia one app and Sign up. 
  • Look for “electricity bills” under Payment and bills and select it.
  • Now choose your electricity company. Depending on the state you reside e.g. port Harcourt (PHED), Jos, Ibadan, Kano, Enugu etc.   
  • Choose your contract type (postpaid or prepaid) .
  • For postpaid meter, You will need to enter your Account number and click on proceed to pay. 
  • For prepaid meter all you need is to enter your meter number and the amount you want to pay. Click on proceed to pay and you will have the option to pay with your debit card.

 You will need a card that that can make payment online e.g. master card or verve etc.
